Many people who visited the Worlds of Fun amusement park in Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday, September 13, had a scary end to their night when the park was evacuated following fears that shots were fired.
Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) off-duty officers received a report that one individual had heard “possible shots fired,” according to local outlet KCBC. Visitors were then ordered to evacuate as police and other agencies made their way to the amusement park.
KCPD said that once police and local agencies arrived at the scene, they found no evidence that indicated shots had been fired.
KCTV5 News, Fox 4 Kansas City and KSHB 41 Kansas City all reported that the alleged sound of gunfire was heard on the park’s opening night of a Haunted House event.

According to KSHB 41 Kansas City, the KCPD said that there were “multiple disturbances” that “officers broke up” upon arrival and there were “several juveniles fighting.”
Authorities conducted a “thorough investigation and patient assessment,” and only one person was transported to a hospital due to “unrelated medical issue.”
“The safety of our guests and associates is a top priority. In response to an emergency call tonight, our safety protocol was initiated and all guests and associates are exiting the property,” a Worlds of Fun spokesperson told KSHB 41 at the time. “We are working closely with Kansas City Police and Clay County Sheriff and at this time there is no evidence to substantiate the claims. The park will remain closed this evening.”
One video of the incident shared via Facebook showed a woman filming and several others appearing panicked as they ran out of the park. “Oh my god. Everybody has to run,” the woman said as others screamed in the background. “Come on, run, run. Oh my God, I’m f–king scared. Everybody is just starting to run.”
