Actress, host, and author Valerie Bertinelli has opened up about using journaling to help her mental health in a new post.
“I’ve been doing a lot of journaling, and under this full moon is a chance to do a lot of purging and releasing within that writing. It feels good. It feels cleansing,” she wrote as part of a lengthy Instagram caption celebrating the full moon that occurred on Sunday, September 7.
Bertinelli’s fans seemed to appreciate her openness and shared their own similar experiences in the comments of the post.
“It is beautiful. I need to start journaling more. Thank you for reminding us to take a few minutes to look at the moon and journaling. Love it,” one commenter said on the post.
Bertinelli is no stranger to being vulnerable with her fans. In her 2022 memoir Enough Already, she shared her struggles with grief, family loss and body shame.

The book was published as a follow-up to her 2008 memoir Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time, where she opened up about her struggles with addiction, infidelity, and bad relationships, sharing the path she took to reclaim her life for her and her son, Wolfgang Van Halen.
In a recent Q&A session with The Drew Barrymore Show, Bertinelli shared more of her personal insights with the audience.
One audience-submitted question asked, “How do you stay confident?” To which Bertinelli answered honestly, saying, “I am so not confident. But I am learning to be more confident. I’m learning to take my own advice. I’m learning to know that I am whole and good and kind just as I am.”
Fans of Bertinelli’s writing and advice are excitedly anticipating more from her soon, after she revealed in a July 18 post that she is working on another book and will be updating fans about it once it is closer to publication.
