Clea Shearer, best known as the co-founder of The Home Edit and star of the hit Netflix series Get Organized With The Home Edit, revealed on Instagram today that she is “basically starting over” after undergoing yet another emergency surgery.
The 43-year-old shared a photo from Vanderbilt University Medical Center alongside co-founder Joanna Teplin, opening up in a candid caption about her ongoing health struggles.
“Remember when I said a few weeks ago that I couldn’t believe I had to go back in for emergency surgery? Well, I just had my third surgery in four weeks, and I’m basically starting over. My drains are back, my incisions are fresh, my movement is limited, and there is no timeline for when I will be healed,” Shearer wrote.
Shearer was first diagnosed with breast cancer on March 8, 2022. Since then, she has endured a double mastectomy, eight surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and additional procedures to treat complications such as dying skin tissue.

After learning the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, Shearer fought through treatment, and in November 2022 announced she was cancer-free.
Still, setbacks have followed her recovery journey.
In her latest post, Shearer explained the complications that led to her most recent procedure after having her drains removed just days prior.

“Essentially, when my drains were removed on Friday, fluid started collecting in my back. By Saturday there was a significant pocket we were monitoring, by Sunday my back resembled a water bed meets a wave pool, and by the time I was getting ready to roll into the operating room today, fluid started leaking heavily from my breast like a punctured water balloon,” she explained.
Though she has since been discharged and is now recovering at home, Shearer admitted the emotional toll of the ongoing challenges.
“But that’s kind of where the good news ends. I’m struggling. I don’t know how much more a person can handle at this point, but I fear I’m testing the limits.”
