Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mikayla Matthews has opened up once again about her chronic skin condition, and how it affects her self esteem. The 25-year-old reality star has suffered from eczema since childhood, and has been documenting her ordeal on social media.

In a video posted to Instagram on Thursday, Oct. 16, Matthews said that she had recently participated in Alex Cooper’s Unwell shows in Las Vegas, and that she wanted to chat with fans as the event left her feeling emotional.

“I feel just so annoyed with my skin, obviously,” she tearfully explained. “It’s very vulnerable going to meet people like going to events and having to have my face on camera all the time and going in front of like a crowd of people. It’s already scary enough.”

Matthews said that she is very aware of how her skin looks and that she hates having to turn down opportunities because of her appearance.

“It’s no secret that my skin and the issues I have is a huge insecurity of mine,” she continued. “And going in front of a crowd of people, going on camera, and having people critique it is probably one of the—it’s really frustrating. It’s frustrating and it sucks.”

Matthews acknowledged that she should know better than to read the comments, but does anyway. “All of them are like, ‘What’s wrong with her neck? What’s wrong with her arms? What’s wrong with her face? Why does she look older?’”

“Which is first of all, is so disgusting. If you ever feel a need to comment on someone’s video about their appearance or what’s wrong with them, take a look in the mirror because there’s clearly something wrong with you,” she said.

While Matthews said that she tries to enjoy herself at events, that her skin issues are always in the back of her mind and that she’s constantly checking her skin on her camera. “I feel like I’m constantly having to, before someone even says something, be like, ‘Oh my god, sorry, I’m flaring like I’m feeling so terrible, I’m looking so horrible, whatever,’” she lamented.

“It’s beyond me that people feel a need to comment and think it’s okay to comment,” she added. “This is just me basically saying if you’re going through something going through chronic illness going through skin issues, health issues, insecurity issues. I’m here with you. It sucks. It sucks so bad. But I’m here with you and I love you and you’re beautiful.”

Matthews, who just gave birth to her fourth child in July, has been candid about her health struggles on social media since 2023.

“When I had eczema outbreaks when I was a kid, like it was so humiliating for me. It just burns and itches everywhere,” she said May 2023 video.

“Now it’s moving to my face which is just so, so lovely and fun. I know it’s easier said than done to just not feel insecure about your insecurities, literally as I sit here crying about my insecurities, but I really am more confident than I’ve been.”
