London-based photographer Josh Shinner landed a coveted gig when he was hired to take family portraits of Prince William, Kate Middletown, and the couple’s three children.
On Wednesday, Shinner shared his “all-time” favorite photo of William and his kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis of Wales.
“It’s been a real privilege to photograph the Prince and Princess of Wales over the last couple of years, and this might be my favourite shot to date,” Shinner captioned an Instagram post with the image. “Just a really joyful and spontaneous moment that I’m so happy to have been there for.”
In the black-and-white photo, William is seen lying in a bed of daffodils with his eyes closed and smiling with his mouth open. To his left, Charlotte is pictured laughing while the two boys piled onto their dad.

Given that the Royal Family is typically seen buttoned-up and serious-looking in public appearances, the candid shot provides a seldom-seen look at the future King of England and his brood. As such, fans of the Royals took to the comments to gush over the sweet captured moment.
“Lovely portrait Josh , captured so much fun and love,” commented one user, while another added, “Such a beautiful image Josh.” “Such a lovely connection between the young princess, you and your camera,” wrote yet another user along with three hand clap emojis.
This isn’t the first time Shinner has made headlines for his coverage of William and Kate. Back in April, Tatler did a deep-dive of Shinner’s work after he took an official portrait of Louis for his 7th birthday.
The publication states that Shinner began working for the family in 2023 when he photographed them for their annual Christmas card. That photo also depicted William, Kate, and their children more casual and relaxed than usual, with the five dressed in jeans and white shirts.
Prince William and Princess Charlotte Have ‘Truly Special Bond’
Around the same time, Shinner spoke with Harper’s Bazaar about his method when asked about how he finds interesting subjects to photograph.
“I’ve always loved portraiture and the people I most enjoy photographing are those that take some warming up,” he explained. “Maybe they’re nervous or they don’t want to be there, or perhaps they find having their picture taken as pleasant as going to the dentist.”
“But I love trying to make those people feel at ease and chatting to them—normally about anything other than the shot we’re about to take—then making them comfortable enough to take a good picture,” he continued. “The feeling when it all comes together and you make something you’re both happy with is hard to beat.”
