Oliva Munn celebrated the first birthday of her daughter Méi June Mulaney this week on Sept. 14, whom she and her husband, John Mulaney, welcomed via surrogacy last year.
The Your Friends and Neighbors actress commemorated the milestone with a touching Instagram tribute.
“We’ve been celebrating Méi’s first birthday for the past few days. She is the happiest, smiliest baby who will also let you know exactly when she doesn’t like something or want something you won’t give her,” Munn wrote, adding that “she mostly wants all the sharp things.”

“She is absolutely in love with her big brother, if I’m in the room she insists that I be the one to hold her and her daddy is the only one who can put her to bed,” the 45-year-old continued. “She’s so cute when she drinks out of straws, she wants to be independent but also have me carry her which is why her favorite place is in the front carrier, her favorite cuisine is Thai and no matter what room she’s in she always manages to find the outlets. She’s crawling, standing and desperate to walk.”
The gallery of photos showed the family celebrating Méi’s birthday with a plum and dragon-themed cake that was a nod to Munn’s maternal heritage.
“Just like her Chinese zodiac and the translation of her name, she’s the perfect mix of a dragon and a plum,” she concluded the post. “Happiest First Birthday our Méi Méi girl. We love you we love you we love you.”

Munn opened up about carrying their daughter via a surrogate shortly after she was born, less than a year after revealing that she had been diagnosed with an “aggressive” and “fast moving” breast cancer.
“I had so many profound emotions about not being able to carry my daughter,” she wrote in an Instagram post. “When I first met our gestational surrogate we spoke mother to mother. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express my gratitude that she kept our baby safe for nine months and made our dreams come true.”

Munn and Mulaney share two children together. Their oldest, a son named Malcolm, was born in November 2021 just months after the comedian confirmed that he and Munn were an item.
Mulaney revealed the news that he and Munn were expecting during a September 2021 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, opening up about his recent stint in rehab.
“In the spring, I went to Los Angeles and met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia,” he explained, recalling first having met Munn at Meyers’ 2013 wedding. “And she got to date me right out of recovery, which is what they call a reverse catch.”
“I got into this relationship that’s been really beautiful with someone incredible,” Mulaney continued. “And she kind of held my hand through that hell. And we’re having a baby, together … I’m gonna be a dad!”
“Olivia and this baby have helped save me from myself in this early journey out of recovery,” he added.
