A man named Hunter Nadeau has been charged with murder after he began a shooting spree at the restaurant at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Saturday, September 20.
Robert Steven DeCesare was killed at the age of 59, while one restaurant patron and one employee were injured in the shooting, state Attorney General John M. Formella said at a news conference on Sunday, September 21, per CNN.
Formella added that four other restaurant patrons were injured in the incident. However, they were not hit by gunfire.
Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke said the employee who was shot was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital, and he’s in critical but stable condition. Meanwhile, authorities said that they did not know the condition of the other victim, per CNN.

Nadeau, 23, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection to DeCesare’s death, authorities confirmed. While Nadeau is a former employee of the club, Formella said there is no known connection between him and DeCesare.
It is expected that Nadeau will face additional charges. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, September 22, at the Ninth Circuit Court in Nashua at 1 p.m. E.T., according to the attorney general’s office.
Authorities believe that Nadeau made multiple statements during the shooting to create confusion, Formella said. Additionally, investigators are still trying to determine if Nadeau – who had not worked at the county club for about a year – had a motive in the shooting.
Authorities initially believed there were two suspects in the shooting. However, Nashau police said in a statement that surveillance footage showed there was only one shooter. Police also explained that Nadeau used a handgun in the assault, which was over in less than one minute.
Rourke said Nadeau was found within 30 minutes of the shooting in a nearby neighborhood and made no attempt to flee, per CNN.

DeCesare’s mother, Evie O’Rourke, explained that her son was having dinner with his wife and daughter at the country club restaurant when the shooting took place. “They cannot wrap their heads around it,” O’Rourke told CNN. “They saw the whole thing, they saw him fall, and had to escape.”
O’Rourke added that her daughter-in-law, Charlene, claimed DeCesare lunged at the gunman in an attempt to stop him before he was ultimately killed.
DeCesare’s mother went on to say that she hopes her son is remembered as “one of those great guys that everybody loves.” She added that she was proud of him for saving his wife and daughter’s lives in the scary situation.
