Nate Bargatze may be a comedian, but he’s taking his first-time hosting duties at the Emmys very seriously—and putting his money where is mouth is.
In an interview during the September 10 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Bargatze revealed his plan to keep the acceptance speeches short this year and ensure the show fits in its three hour time slot.
“Everybody gets 45 seconds to do all the thank yous,” Bargatze explained in the interview. “So, what I came up with is I’m gonna donate $100,000 to the Boys & Girls Club. That’s what the show’s starting out with. Everybody does their 45 seconds. If someone goes over, we take away $1,000 a second. I know it’s tough. If you go under, we will put $1,000 back on, so you can give it back.”
Clarifying that this is not just another silly host joke, Bargatze added, “It’s real, real. That’s why we did the add on, cause I thought everybody would think it was a joke if we just took away. I swear. I’m putting the money up.”
Bargatze is now in the thick of Emmys preparations, sharing a video of him helping to roll out the red carpet for the event on his Instagram.

The comedian also has a busy weekend booked ahead of the awards show, with shows for his comedy tour in Denver on Friday and Saturday night.
“I think I want to be busy,” Bargatze shared with Jimmy Kimmel. “I’ll be doing shows in Denver, so I’ll be being funny onstage and all I’ve got to do is that, here, in front of the people here.”
Bargatze also admitted that while he hasn’t seen all the shows up for nomination, he’s sure they’re great. “It’s a bunch of shows, and I’ve seen a lot of the trailers and commercials for the shows. So, I get the vibe of them, you know?” he shared with Kimmel as the audience laughed.
