Mitt Romney’s Sister-in-Law Discovered Dead in LA Parking Lot After Fatal Fall

Mitt Romney’s sister-in-law Carrie Romney was found dead in a Los Angeles parking garage on October 10, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed.

Authorities responded to a Valencia parking garage around 8:30 p.m. on October 10 after they received reports about a deceased body, according to NBC Los Angeles. The deceased was identified as Carrie and it was determined that she either jumped or fell from a five-story parking structure and died at the scene, law enforcement sources told the outlet.

Additionally, NBC Los Angeles shared that the parking garage is located next to a Hyatt Regency hotel.

There is an ongoing investigation into Carrie’s death, and authorities told People that the cause of death will be “determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s Office.”

Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office records confirmed that Carrie died on October 10, per People, and her cause of death was listed as deferred as of Monday, October 13. Meanwhile, her body status is listed as “ready for release.”

Three days after Carrie’s death, Mitt, 78, issued a statement about Carrie’s death on behalf of their family. “Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives,” he told People on Tuesday, October 14. “We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

Carrie was the third wife of Mitt’s brother, G Scott Romney. The couple wed in 2016 and remained together until her untimely death. He was previously married to Ronna Romney from 1967 until 1992 and Sheri Jelalian from 2011 until 2016.

Mitt is best known for his work as a politician. He served as a United States senator in Utah from 2019 to 2025, as well as the 70th governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007. He announced his plans to retire from politics in 2023, revealing he wouldn’t run for re-election when his term as senator ended in early 2025.

He previously ran as the Republican Party’s nominee in the 2012 U.S. presidential election, though lost the race to Barack Obama.
