Miley Cyrus Still Has Old Letters From Time With Liam Hemsworth

There are some things in Miley Cyrus’s closet she still can’t let go of.

In a September 24 interview with Vogue, the “Party in the U.S.A” singer revealed that she’s held onto mementos from her relationship with ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth

“I needed my mom here with me,” the 32-year-old shared. “I literally have the dress I was wearing when I met my ex-husband, and I also have the dress from our first date.”

She added, “Along with letters and things that I really want to savor—these beautiful moments of my life. But because those intimate moments were also public, it’s hard to decide which pieces I’d ever want to share or allow to be seen.”

Cyrus explained that she discovered these sentimental items while “deep in the inventory and organization” of her life’s archives, as she worked on “creating a legacy rack—a couple of looks from every era that I’d want to be remembered for,” she told Vogue.

I feel joy when I’m organizing and cleaning—it never feels like a task to me,” she said. “Everything I do in my life is a little intense, but it has to be holistic. That’s why my eras aren’t costumes—they’re like a metamorphosis, a true evolution for me personally.”

Cyrus and Hemsworth’s love story began in 2009 on the set of The Last Song when Cyrus was just 16. After filming ended, the pair confirmed their budding romance with a passionate airport farewell.

What followed was a years-long on-again, off-again relationship, until Hemsworth sealed the deal in 2012, giving the singer an engagement ring.

After pressing pause on their wedding plans in April 2013, the couple officially ended their engagement that September. But their story didn’t end there—three years later, Cyrus and Hemsworth found their way back to each other.

Finally in December of 2018, the pair said ‘I do,’ with Cyrus later sharing a photo of their wedding-day kiss on Instagram to confirm the happy news.

Unfortunately, happily ever after wasn’t in the cards for the couple.

Hemsworth filed for divorce in August 2019, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The actor shared on Instagram a note about the breakup writing, “Hi all. Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love.”

That same year, Cyrus did an interview on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast and opened up about how the public divorce “f****** sucked.”

“What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore,” Cyrus said. “That’s okay. I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainizing and just all those stories.”
