Kayla Nicole kept her cool and expertly sidestepped questions about Travis Kelce’s engagement to Taylor Swift at a New York Fashion Week event.
At a Champion and Sports Illustrated party on Thursday, September 11, Nicole, 33, was asked by a reporter if she had any comment on Kelce’s engagement.
“Oh, no, no, no,” Nicole told a Daily Mail reporter. “But I’m really happy to be here at Champion, though! This is a dope party.”
The sports reporter and influencer, who dated Kelce on and off from 2017 to 2022, confirmed that she is currently single and shared some qualities she values in a partner. “I love an honest man, a man of really great character,” she said, adding that they should also like “to have fun” and be “spontaneous.” Nicole emphasized that a man should have a “great relationship with their family” and “really good girlfriends.” She concluded, “I’m living in my little single season.”
Kelce, 35, and Swift, 35, announced their engagement last month after dating for two years. The couple shared the news in a playful joint Instagram post on August 26, captioning a series of photos showing Kelce proposing: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Kelce’s father, Ed Kelce, provided some behind-the-scenes insight to ABC affiliate News 5 Cleveland. “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” he said. “He was going to put it off till this week … to make it a big, special event.” He added, “I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”

Travis and Taylor’s romance began on July 7, 2023, at one of her Eras Tour stops at Arrowhead Stadium. On his “New Heights” podcast, Kelce revealed he had wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number but never did — and Taylor reached out first. By September, the relationship went public, though Swift told Time they had a private start: “So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to know each other.”
Since then, the duo have been inseparable. Swift has attended Chiefs games, including their 2024 Super Bowl victory, and Kelce has appeared at her Eras Tour shows worldwide. She even brought him on stage during a London concert for a skit on “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” signaling her public approval. “We’re showing up for each other. Other people are there and we don’t care. … And [Travis and I are] just proud of each other,” Swift told Time.
