What Happened to Judge Diane Goodstein’s Home?

Firefighters responded to the fire at Edisto Beach in Colleton County on the afternoon of Saturday, October 4, according to WIS. The outlet also confirmed that the house is owned by Judge Diane Goodstein and her husband, former state Senator Arnold Goodstein.

The cause of the fire is not currently known, according to CNN.

Fire officials said the home is located on a barrier island, which has significant challenges such as limited water supply and tight areas, according to WYFF 4. The officials said that the occupants managed to escape the home by jumping from an elevated first floor. They were then rescued from the backyard using kayaks.

Three People Were Injured in the Incident

WIS reported that three people were hospitalized after the explosion, though their identities have not been confirmed. Additionally, the severity of their injuries is not currently known.

Meanwhile, Colleton County Fire Rescue Captain K.C. Campbell said that one person was evacuated by air to the Medical University of South Carolina. The two others were taken to the same hospital, per WCSC.

Police Reported to the Scene After Judge Diane Goodstein’s Home Was Set on Fire

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division sent officials to the scene after the beachfront property was set on fire.

“Chief Justice John W. Kittredge is aware of an incident involving Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein. At this time, SLED is on the scene and will begin investigating as soon as the fire has been contained,” the South Carolina Supreme Court said in a statement on October 4, according to CNN. “Local law enforcement partners have been alerted and asked to provide extra patrols and security. The Judicial Branch will remain in close communication with SLED.”

Judge Diane Goodstein Breaks Silence on Fire

On Monday, October 6, Goodstein told The Daily Mail that she was “alright” following the fire. She added that she would be “happy to direct you to a court administrator” to answer further questions about the incident.
