Jonas Pate Accused of Shaking PA on ‘Outer Banks’ Set, Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline Intervene

Drama behind the cameras? Outer Banks stars Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline reportedly stepped in after cocreator Jonas Pate allegedly grabbed a production assistant on set.

The incident happened while filming in Dubrovnik, Croatia, according to TMZ. Pate allegedly put his hands on the PA and shook her while shouting in her face, prompting Stokes, 33, to intervene and separate them. Cline, 27, also jumped in to help de-escalate the situation. Production reportedly continued after the incident.

In addition to his work on Outer Banks, Pate is the creator of Prime Video’s The Runarounds, which stars his daughter, Lilah Pate. Sources told TMZ that tensions were “high” on set but claimed the outburst was not “unusual behavior” for Pate. Life & Style has reached out to Netflix representatives for comment.

Outer Banks, which debuted in 2020, follows the conflict between two groups of teens in a coastal North Carolina town: the wealthy Kooks and the working-class Pogues. The search for lost treasure escalates tensions between the groups. In November 2024, it was confirmed the show would end after season 5, concluding the story arcs of John B (Stokes), Sarah (Cline), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), JJ (Rudy Pankow), and Cleo (Carlacia Grant).

Where Was ‘Outer Banks’ Filmed? The Show Wasn’t Shot in North Carolina

Pate launched The Runarounds on Prime Video in 2025, casting his daughter Lilah as one of the leads. The series follows a band rising to fame after graduating high school and is set in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Speaking to People, Lilah shared how special it was to work professionally with her father after admiring his work for years. “Growing up on a film set, I was always drawn to it,” she said. “I never wanted to leave. I was very much [my dad’s] mini me, his sidekick, always begging to be on set, always begging to be in the room when people auditioned. I was in the room for a lot of the original cast members for Outer Banks when they auditioned. I was always drawn to it, but [my dad] really only wanted me to pursue it if it was something that I truly loved. He was like, ‘Great, you wanna act then act, take improv, do local theater, study it in school.’”

She added, “I continued to show him and learn from him and shadow him consistently. And then over time, after I had booked a few roles on my own, he saw that this is really what I wanted to do with my life.”

Outer Banks is currently streaming on Netflix, while The Runarounds is available on Prime Video.
