A former teacher in California explained why he sent a lewd video of himself to underage girls during a recent court hearing.
Nicholas Moseby was arrested in September 2022 after he was accused of texting a video of his genitals to two girls that were 14 and 15 years old at the time. While appearing in a Contra Costa County courtroom in October, he reportedly claimed that the texts were an accident and that he meant to send the video to a sex worker, according to the East Bay Times.
“He talks to a lot of sex workers,” Moseby’s public defender, Manisha Daryani, told the court, per the outlet. “All of us have phones, and all of us have accidentally texted the wrong person. It happens.”
Following Moseby’s arrest, he was charged with three felonies that included two counts of committing a lewd act upon a child and another count for distributing or showing pornography to a minor, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

The East Bay Times also reported that more alleged victims have come forward since Moseby’s arrest, and he is now facing an additional charge of sexual battery.
Moseby, 44, previously worked as a biology teacher at San Ramon Valley High School before he became a gym teacher at Diablo Vista Middle School in Danville, California. Additionally, he worked as a cheerleading instructor at Nor Cal Elites in San Ramon, California.
After he was arrested, he was placed in custody for roughly three months before he posted a $200,000 bail in December 2022, according to the local outlet Danville San Ramon.
Danville San Ramon reported that Moseby pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, while the East Bay Times also reported that Moseby once again denied the allegations while testifying during his recent trial.

Moseby’s criminal trial has been delayed eight times in recent years, with Danville San Ramon reporting that both his attorneys and prosecutors from the district attorney’s office have requested more time when coming up with arguments for the case.
“Position of trust. Position of power. Abused for his own sexual pleasure,” Deputy District Attorney Jessica Murad said during her closing arguments, per the East Bay Times.
Jury deliberations in the case are currently underway as of the morning of Wednesday, October 15, according to Danville San Ramon.
