Everything the ‘Gilmore Girls’ Cast Has Said About Another Reboot: Quotes

Where they go, we will follow (and rewatch every fall)! Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, and the rest of the Gilmore Girls cast have been dropping hints for years about a possible second season of the Year in the Life revival, keeping fans’ hopes alive despite no official confirmation.

The original series aired from October 2000 to May 2007, but viewers were left without true closure when the show was canceled. Graham (Lorelai Gilmore), Bledel (Rory Gilmore), and other cast members returned in November 2016 for a four-part Netflix revival titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Fans were again left hanging when the final episode ended with — spoiler alert — Rory announcing she was pregnant.

Since then, speculation about another revival has swirled, and both the cast and crew have weighed in over the years. “I think [we would do more] if the time is right and everybody is in the mood — because that’s how it happened before. We all sort of saw each other at a festival and kind of went, ‘Hey! No one hates each other.’ And decided to do it,” creator Amy Sherman-Palladino told Us Weekly in January 2018. “[It] could happen again — absolutely.”

Executive producer Daniel Palladino added that timing would shape any new episodes. “It really depends on when we attack the story. Coming back eight or nine years after the original series for the four movies we did — it dictates partly what the story is going to be,” he explained. He also noted that “the death of Ed Herrmann was unfortunately one of the things that changed for the cast so it changed what the characters were going through. It really just depends on when we do it. We can do it a year from now, two years, five years, 10 years. It would be different.”

In a joint interview with TV Insider, Sherman-Palladino, Kelly Bishop, and Graham reflected on the revival and the possibility of revisiting Stars Hollow. Sherman-Palladino admitted they never planned to do a revival before 2016 but were inspired after meeting for a panel. “I love Stars Hollow. I love Lauren Graham more than life. I love Alexis, and Kelly Bishop is my ‘Contessa.’”

While nothing is officially in the works, the cast and creators continue to fuel fans’ dreams of another return to Stars Hollow.
