In an emotional video shared on Instagram, Emma Heming Willis delivered heartfelt news to her followers.
“Bruce was an avid reader, a voracious reader. His favorite section of The New York Times was always the book section, because he loved looking at the bestseller list,” she explained.
“And what I learned today is that The Unexpected Journey made that list—and it came in at number two. All I could think of was how proud Bruce would be.”

In her memoir, The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself, that dropped September 9th, Heming Willis opens up about stepping into the role of caregiver for her husband, Bruce Willis, while also navigating her own path of resilience and hope.
The actor was diagnosed with aphasia in the spring of 2022, and the family later announced his new diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia in the spring of 2023. Since then, his condition has progressed, leaving him unable to read, speak, or write.
“He loved going to bookstores, he loved browsing, he loved buying books, and his favorite section of The New York Times was the book section because he loved looking at the bestseller list,” recalled the mother of their two daughters.

“All I could think of was that Bruce would be so proud,” she added. “Writing a book was never on my bucket list, and it was not something that was in my cards.
“I’m still trying to process it. I’m truly in shock, and so deeply grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My hope now is that this book cares for you, the way you’ve cared for me.”
