Legendary former quarterback Eli Manning offered rookie New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart his advice and guidance, whenever he needed it. However, when Dart finally reached out for help, it wasn’t quite what Manning had in mind.
“I told Jaxson, if you have any questions about anything, you know, I’m here for you. You know, football related or just you know, when you’re deciding what town you want to live in or this or that, Manning said in an interview with NFL analyst Peter Shrager on the sports related podcast, The Shrager Hour.
“All of a sudden, it’s training camp, he calls me, he’s like, ‘You got a minute?’” Manning excitedly told Schrager. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course.’”
Manning was expecting the 23-year-old to seek advice, especially since during his own rookie season, he had been brought in to back up veteran Kurt Warner. Dart finds himself in a similar situation this year, serving as the backup to Russell Wilson.
“Such a similar situation we’re in,” Manning thought. “Maybe he’s just dealing with that.”
He goes, “Can you get me a reservation at 4 Charles [Prime Rib] tonight at 6:30.” “I was like, ‘No, no, no that’s not part of the deal,” Manning explained. “When I said I’m willing to help out, I’m not doing that. I’m not your reservations guy. You have to earn the right to call and get your reservation.”
Schrager then offered some context for why Dart might have asked Manning for help. “4 Charles Prime,” Schrager explained, “let me just give a little context—it’s an eight-table restaurant in Greenwich Village, New York City. It’s impossible to get a table.”
“It’s one of those places where you can’t just go on OpenTable or Resy and snag a reservation,” he added.
