Fans were left stunned when Brandy suddenly walked offstage mid-song during her Chicago concert — but now the R&B legend is setting the record straight.

During the October 18 stop of The Boy Is Mine tour at the United Center, the 46-year-old performer paused mid-performance, telling the audience, “Give me one second, y’all. I gotta get my…” before slowly exiting the stage. Monica later returned to continue the show solo, but the two singers never reunited for their iconic duet, leaving concertgoers worried about Brandy’s condition.

The next day, Brandy addressed the unexpected moment head-on. In an October 19 Instagram post, she explained that health issues forced her to end the show early. “I sincerely apologize for the abrupt end to last night’s performance in Chicago,” she wrote. “After weeks of nonstop rehearsals, last night I experienced dehydration and feelings of wanting to faint, everyone involved agreed that prioritizing my well-being was of the utmost importance.”

Brandy revealed that despite feeling faint, she tried to push through for fans. “I still made the decision to try and return and give it my all despite not feeling okay,” she shared. “With having to make some adjustments and the show being very technical, unfortunately, it was impossible to fully connect sonically with the production. I really appreciate everyone’s best efforts.”

She also gave a special shout-out to Monica for holding things down when she had to leave the stage. “I want to thank Monica for stepping up with such grace and professionalism,” she wrote.

After the show, Brandy immediately sought medical care. “I went from the arena to see a doctor nearby,” she said, adding that she’s taken “the proper precautions” to keep her health on track for the rest of the tour.

The “Sittin’ Up in My Room” singer closed her message with reassurance for fans. “Your understanding, patience and unwavering belief mean the world to me,” she wrote. “I look forward to returning to the stage—stronger and more grateful than ever—alongside my girl Monica tonight in Indianapolis.”

Brandy and Monica kicked off their 24-city tour earlier this year to celebrate their 1998 chart-topping hit, officially putting years of feud rumors to rest. “They were trying to get us to do a tour since ’98 and it just finally felt like the right time,” Brandy told CBS Mornings in June. Monica added, “We created the communication and the relationship to do it.”
