Scream 7’s Subtle Neve Campbell Detail Confirms A Popular Sidney Theory

By James Garcia 10/30/2025

The first trailer for Scream 7 has officially been released, and it provides a look at Sidney Prescott's family while confirming a popular fan theory about one character. Neve Campbell is back, leading Scream 7's cast, which consists of new and returning characters.

Campbell was notably missing from Scream 6 after appearing in 2022's "requel," Scream. Scream 6 primarily focused on sisters, Sam and Tara Carpenter, and their friends, Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin. While Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy-Brown are reprising their roles as Chad and Mindy, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega will not be returning for Scream 7 as the Carpenter sisters.

Among the Scream 7 newcomers are Joel McHale playing Sidney's husband, Mark Evans, and Isabel May, who portrays Sidney and Mark's daughter. May's character features prominently in Scream 7's trailer, but there's a subtle detail involving the teenager that connects back to Sidney's past.

Scream 7 Confirms That Sidney Named Her Daughter After Tatum Riley

Scream 7's trailer sees Ghostface terrorizing Sidney yet again, but this time, the masked killer is targeting Sidney's family, too. At one point in the trailer, Sidney is on the phone with her daughter and calls her "Tatum," confirming that she named her daughter after Tatum Riley. The original Tatum, played by Rose McGowan in 1996's Scream, was Sidney's best friend and Dewey Riley's younger sister.

Tatum was killed by Ghostface with the help of a garage door in the original movie. When it was announced that Sidney's teenage daughter would be part of the upcoming Scream 7, there were theories that suggested Sidney would name her daughter after her slain best friend. The sequel's first trailer has now confirmed that theory, proving that Sidney thoughtfully honored Tatum long after her death.

The name of Sidney's daughter is not the only nod to Riley in the modern Scream sequels. In Scream 5, a box with Tatum's ashes could be seen on display in Dewey's trailer. Even though the characters haven't directly mentioned Tatum and her death, the Easter egg shows that the character wasn't forgotten. Since Sidney already had a daughter by the events of 2022's Scream, it means she named her daughter Tatum before Dewey's death, so he would have been well aware of the sweet gesture.

Scream 7 Will Feature Many Aspects Of Sidney's Past

Even though Scream 7 will heavily incorporate the new Tatum into the story, the sequel will also factor in several other notable elements from Sidney's past. The threatening call Sidney receives in the trailer comes from Woodsboro, with Ghostface mentioning "where we grew up," suggesting the person is linked to Sidney's hometown.

Stu won't be the only former Ghostface to be involved in the upcoming installment, as Scott Foley's Roman Bridger will also be involved somehow. Bringing back dead characters is clearly a theme for Scream 7, as David Arquette has been confirmed to return despite Dewey's death in Scream 5.
