NBA Stars Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier Arrested in Federal Gambling-Related Investigation

NBA stars Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier have been arrested in connection with a federal gambling-related investigation, authorities have confirmed.

Rozier, 31, was arrested on the morning of Thursday, October 23, in Orlando, Florida, according to NBC News. It’s not currently clear where Billups, 49, was arrested. Though the team he coaches, the Portland Trail Blazers, played in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, October 22.

Despite the uncertainty of details regarding the arrests, two senior law enforcement officials confirmed to the outlet that both Rozier and Billups were arrested in relation to the federal gambling-related investigation.

It is expected that members and associates of organized crime groups will be among dozens of people to face criminal charges in two separate illegal gambling-related cases.

Not much is known about the current case, though officials said that the FBI and other officials will be announcing the charges against Billups and Rozier later in the morning of October 23. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, and FBI Director Kash Patel will conduct the press conference regarding the situation.

Rozier has reportedly been looked at for months over suspicious sports betting activity related to his game play, according to CNBC.

Reps for neither Rozier nor Billups have publicly reacted to the arrests.

After he played college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals, Rozier was picked 16th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2015 NBA draft. He later played for the Charlotte Hornets before he joined the Miami Heat in 2024.

Meanwhile, Billups previously played in the NBA for teams including the Celtics, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers before he became the head coach of the Trail Blazers in 2021.

Billups made a name for himself in the league, and he was named the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player in 2004 when the Pistons defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals.
