The Royal Family allegedly wants claims made against Prince Andrew to “be examined in the proper and fullest ways.”

After it was announced on October 17 that Andrew, 65, was relinquishing the use of his royal titles and honors, a Buckingham palace source told Sky News on Monday, October 20, that it was felt an investigation is needed because of “the broader allegations and the issues highlighted” against him.

While Andrew has denied all of the allegations made against him, the source told the outlet that the “new allegations that have been brought up” are of “very serious and grave concern.” In light of the claims, the palace believes they “should be examined in the proper and fullest way.”

It was recently reported that Andrew asked a royal close protection officer to “dig up dirt” on Virginia Giuffre in 2011, according to BBC. Giuffre, who died in April by suidice, previously accused Andrew of sexual assault, which he has repeatedly denied.

Giuffre made the claims in her posthumous autobiography, Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir of Surviving Abuse and Fighting for Justice, which was released on Tuesday, October 21.

After the allegations were revealed, the Metropolitan Police said it is “actively looking into the claims,” according to BBC.

Meanwhile, police sources told Sky News that it was possible the protection officer who Andrew allegedly asked to find information may still work within the police force. The outlet was also told that the officer would have been expected to escalate this request from Andrew to his superiors, so other senior individuals may be aware of the alleged requests.

It was announced on October 17 that Andrew voluntarily gave up the use of his titles, according to BBC. He said in a statement that the “continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”

In light of the decision, he can no longer sign off as the Duke of York, or put “KG” – which stands for a Knight of the Garter – after his name. The Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh have also been removed from his list of titles, as well as the name “Andrew Inverness.”

Andrew’s decision to drop his royal titles came after years of scandals. In addition to Giuffre’s claim, he’s made headlines for being linked to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Additionally, Andrew’s finances and his reported connections to an alleged Chinese spy have also put him under fire, per BBC.
