Dua Lipa and English actor Callum Turner made it official over the summer when they announced their engagement after less than a year of dating.
The pair have not exactly hidden their relationship, as Turner was heavily featured on Lipa’s Instagram all summer long, and now the Fantastic Beasts star has opened up about how they first met.
Speaking with The Sunday Times in an interview published on Saturday, October 18, Turner first said that he and Lipa had several “near misses” involving mutual friends and places where they almost met, but the timing was just slightly off.
“There’s one where she went to a party and then I went to a party but I arrived minutes after she left. I arrived at 2:00 in the morning and she left at 1.45,” Turner explained. “She checked her Uber and I checked a photo I’d taken opposite my friend’s house when I arrived. There were loads of things like that and then, when we were both able to, we were both single and whatever, I just thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.”
However, once the couple did finally meet, over drinks in Los Angeles before a mutual friend’s birthday, the connection was apparently immediate and it sounds very much as though it was love at first sight.

“We sat next to each other and realized we were reading the same book, which is crazy,” Turner continued. “It’s called Trust [by Hernán Díaz] and I had just finished the first chapter and I told her and she looked at me and said, ‘I just finished the first chapter too.’ I said, ‘So we’re on the same page.’”
“In the movie version of it I look up to the sky and I’m like, I hear you. I understand,” he added. “The signs are loud, don’t worry. And that was really the first [moment].”
Lipa first revealed that the couple were engaged in the cover story for the July issue of Vogue. However, at the time, there were still no immediate plans to walk down the aisle, as the 30-year-old said that she wanted to wrap up her your and that Turner was filming a movie.
“Yeah, we’re engaged. It’s very exciting,” she told the publication. “This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don’t know, be best friends forever—it’s a really special feeling.”

As for the ring, Lipa said that Turner had it made for her after consulting with her best friends and her sister. “I’m obsessed with it. It’s so me,” she added. “It’s nice to know the person that you’re going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well.”
