Hailey Bieber is ready to set the record straight — again.
In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, the Rhode founder addressed the persistent fan-fueled narrative that pits her against Selena Gomez, years after both women publicly shut down speculation of a feud.
When asked whether she worried Sephora shoppers might compare her beauty brand Rhode to Selena’s Rare Beauty — given the constant online chatter about an “unspoken rivalry” between the two — Hailey didn’t shy away from the question. In fact, even after her publicist asked to skip it, she decided to answer head-on.
“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” Hailey responded. “When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.”

The 28-year-old was also asked if she felt any sense of competition, considering Rhode’s presence alongside other major Sephora brands. Her response? “I think there is space for everybody.”
This isn’t the first time Hailey has spoken up about fan narratives linking her to Selena. Back in 2022, the two women made headlines when they posed and hugged at a gala, a moment intended to prove that there was no bad blood between them. A year later, Hailey publicly addressed the rumors, calling the so-called feud “completely made-up and twisted and perpetuated narratives.”
Earlier in 2023, both Hailey and Selena even issued statements defending one another and urging fans to stop spreading hate. “I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I,” Hailey wrote at the time. Despite their united front, the drama continued to resurface online in the years that followed.

In her latest interview, Hailey acknowledged that the scrutiny around her personal life hasn’t faded — even as her business grows. “We’re both really finding our voices of who we are and, I believe, both really walking authentically in what it is we actually want to be doing,” she said, referring to herself and husband Justin Bieber.
The couple welcomed their first child, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024, and Hailey admitted motherhood has shifted her priorities. “I feel like time has just become so precious,” she shared. “Having kids makes you realize that.”
