A 13-year-old girl stole a car and drove drunk with an 11-year-old passenger in the vehicle, resulting in a terrifying crash in Arizona.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said that both children were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, according to ABC News.
The dangerous ride was reported around 1 a.m. after the car in question was stolen from the Flagstaff Police Department, according to DPS. Officials said the driver went the wrong way across the median on Interstate 40 near Flagstaff before they self-corrected and drove at over 100 mph in the right direction.
The 13-year-old then allegedly drove onto the guardrail, which DPS said caused the car to roll over multiple times and crash into a tree.

“The impact was so severe that the steering wheel broke off while the vehicle was rolling, and was ejected approximately 50 feet from where the vehicle landed,” the department said in a statement, per ABC News.
The driver’s blood alcohol concentration was recorded at 0.183, which is well over the legal limit. In Arizona, anyone 21 and older can be charged with a DUI if their BAC is above .08 percent. Meanwhile, drivers that are under 21 must have a BAC of 0.00 percent.
Following the crash, a DPS spokesperson told ABC News that the 13-year-old will face DUI charges.
“We’re thankful the kids are okay, but this could’ve ended way worse,” DPS said in a statement, per the outlet. “Juvenile joyriding and underage drinking are extremely dangerous. Talk to your kids about the dangers of drinking and unlicensed driving.”
If you are charged with a DUI in Arizona, “you will lose your driving privilege on the spot,” according to the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division. “In addition you will be required to complete alcohol or drug screening before you can obtain a restricted permit or reinstate your driving privilege.”
