British race car driver Lewis Hamilton has announced that his beloved dog, Roscoe, has passed away.
The 40-year-old took to Instagram on September 29 to share photos of the two of them together along with a heart-wrenching caption. “After four days on life support, fighting with every bit of strength he had, I had to make the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye to Roscoe. He never stopped fighting, right until the very end,” he said.
Earlier, on September 25, Hamilton had updated fans on Roscoe’s health, revealing the dog had caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe. “He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks, and during the process his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this,” he explained.
Reflecting on their bond, Hamilton continued in September 29’s Instagram post writing, “I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend. Bringing Roscoe into my life was the best decision I ever made, and I will forever cherish the memories we created together.”

The Formula One star then revealed what he had never experienced before, explaining, “Although I lost Coco (Hamilton’s dog who passed away in 2020), I have never been faced with putting a dog to sleep before, though I know my mum and many close friends have.”
“It is one of the most painful experiences, and I feel a deep connection to everyone who has gone through the loss of a beloved pet,” he continued. “Having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return.”

He also shared a touching video tribute on Instagram, which has been flooded with comments of support and love. The touching video has already racked up over 3 million views.
Twelve-year-old Roscoe was a familiar presence throughout much of Hamilton’s career, and has over 1.4 million followers on Instagram.
