The death of Ellen Greenberg will be investigated in Hulu’s upcoming docuseries Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg? One week before the docuseries’ premiere, the debut trailer was released on Monday, September 22.
Greenberg, a first-grade teacher, was found dead at the age of 27 by her fiancé, Samuel Goldberg, in their Philadelphia apartment in the midst of a blizzard. She was found with 20 stab wounds, and her death was initially ruled a homicide. However, the medical examiner changed his findings and said she died by suicide. Despite the ruling of her cause of death being changed, her family never stopped fighting that her case be looked into.
The first trailer for Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg? begins with a voiceover of Goldberg calling 911 to report that Greenberg was injured. “My fiancé is on the floor with blood everywhere. Please hurry,” he said as clips showed snow outside. “There’s a knife sticking out of her heart.”
Photos of Greenberg appeared onscreen as a voiceover explained that she was found with 20 stab wounds. After noting that the medical examiner initially ruled her death as a homicide, the voiceover explained it was later switched to suicide.

An interview followed with a man saying that it didn’t “add up” that Greenberg committed suicide, while a woman said she never saw someone stab themself in the back before.
“Everyone realized how strange and twisted this case was,” another woman added.
After it was alleged that many departments and people played a role in getting the medical examiner to change the ruling from homicide to suidice, an additional man pointed out that there was no investigation or held crime scene following Greenberg’s death.
“Does the evidence match the story that we’re hearing?” a woman asked in a voiceover. “Pretty much all of that is negative. It is our responsibility to Ellen to find out the truth.”
The trailer concluded with a man saying in a voiceover, “If you want to get away with a homicide, have it declared a suicide.”
In February, Greenberg’s family settled lawsuits they filed against the City of Philadelphia, former Chief Medical Examiner Sam Gulino and others, according to ABC News. In addition to being granted a monetary payment, city officials also agreed to reevaluate Greenberg’s manner of death. Additionally, Dr. Marlon Osbourne signed a statement attesting that he no longer believes Greenberg died by suicide.
The docuseries features “more than 20 new interviews with those who knew Ellen best, including close friends, family members, and her former students and colleagues, painting a portrait of a warm, vibrant young woman who was planning her wedding and deeply loved by those who knew her,” according to a press release from ABC News Studios and obtained by People.
