Robert Irwin may be dazzling viewers with his impressive dance moves on Season 34 of Dancing With the Stars, but fans can’t help but wonder—does the wildlife conservationist have a special someone cheering him on from the sidelines?
The 21-year-old has quickly become one of the standout performers this season alongside dance partner Witney Carson. But while he’s been lighting up the ballroom, Robert recently confirmed that romance isn’t currently part of his busy life. Speaking to E! News after the September 23 episode, he revealed that he is, in fact, single.
“I think more than anything else just genuine kindness,” Robert shared when asked what he looks for in a partner. “That’s so important, to surround yourself with people who are genuinely kind.”
Of course, kindness isn’t the only quality on Robert’s wish list. The conservationist admitted that his adventurous lifestyle, which includes his work at the Australia Zoo, means he hopes to meet someone who can keep up. “My life is a whirlwind, it’s an adventure. I would love to be able to share that with someone and to share those little moments,” he explained.
For now, Robert is taking a patient approach to love. “It’s something you kind of can’t rush. It just has to happen and you’ve got to be open to that,” he said. “I know she’s out there and I look forward to it.”

Still, he’s not navigating his love life completely solo. Carson revealed to E! News that she and Robert’s sister, Bindi Irwin, are playing matchmaker behind the scenes. “Submit your applications via DM and I will forward them to Bindi. And then, then we will see about the American tourist,” she joked. Robert laughed, replying, “I’ve got another protective older sister now.”
Robert also credits his family with shaping his perspective on relationships. In his People cover story, he opened up about admiring the bond between his late father, Steve Irwin, and his mom, Terri. “I look at my mom, I look at my dad and I’m like, that’s it. That’s who I want to be. That’s a perfect relationship,” he said.
He also pointed out the sweet parallels between his parents’ and sister’s love stories. “My mom and dad met when she was this American tourist coming over to Australia, and that’s also how my sister met her husband,” Robert shared, referencing Bindi and her husband, Chandler Powell. With a laugh, he added, “I’ve been saying, when is that going to happen for me?! I’m still waiting for it. That American tourist is not quite lined up.”
