Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting and were identified by the Washington County Coroner’s Office as 18-year-old Kaslyn Johnson, 19-year-old Calvin Plant, 41-year-old Oreshama Johnson and 25-year-old Shelbyona Powell.

Following the fatal shooting, Leland Mayor John Lee said the city was experiencing a “great loss” after the tragedy and asked for prayers during a press conference on October 10, per ABC News.

“This could have easily been in another city, just like it was here in Leland, Mississippi,” Lee added.

However, the FBI said the shooting seemed to have been “sparked by a disagreement among several individuals.” Additionally, an FBI spokesperson told the outlet late on October 13 that “other arrests are pending” as the investigation continues.

The incident in Leland was not the only shooting that took place in Mississippi over the weekend. Other shootings were reported at two Mississippi universities on Saturday, October 11, as the schools celebrated their homecoming weekends, according to CNN.
